Spin-dependent heat transport and thermal boundary resistance
ii Acknowledgments I have had the pleasure of working with many exceptional people during my time at Carnegie Mellon University. First and foremost, I wish to heartily thank my advisor, Professor Jimmy Zhu, for the chance to pursue my graduate studies under his guidance and instruction. He served the chair of the committee for my thesis. I wish to acknowledge the assistance and advice of my the...
متن کاملTime-Dependent Thermal Transport Theory.
Understanding thermal transport in nanoscale systems presents important challenges to both theory and experiment. In particular, the concept of local temperature at the nanoscale appears difficult to justify. Here, we propose a theoretical approach where we replace the temperature gradient with controllable external blackbody radiations. The theory recovers known physical results, for example, ...

متن کاملSpin-dependent transport in molecular tunnel junctions.
We present measurements of magnetic tunnel junctions made using a self-assembled-monolayer molecular barrier. Ni-octanethiol-Ni samples were fabricated in a nanopore geometry. The devices exhibit significant changes in resistance as the angle between the magnetic moments in the two electrodes is varied, demonstrating that low-energy electrons can traverse the molecular barrier while remaining s...
متن کاملSpin Dependent Transport in Magnetic Nanostructures
Recent progress in physics on spin dependent transport in magnetic nanostructures is reviewed. Special attention is paid on the spin accumulation and spin current caused by spin injection into non-magnetic metals and semiconductors and superconductors. A variety of phenomena induced in nano-superconductor/ferromagnet devices are proposed, examining the spin-charge separation in superconductors.
